Simple Photoblog Design

Last week, I redesigned my photoblog once again, going back to a very light design theme:

It's incredibly simple (which is what I was aiming for), seeing as the only graphics on it is the main banner and the background, plus a few other little things.

Its nice, simple and effective. Sometimes you can get away with simple and you have done justice. Great work. Only thing I can think of is perhaps add more colour overall??? Maybe change the colour of the headings or text? It all seems to be black and white apart from the banner?

I was actually going for more of a dark gray & white theme, with that little bit of pale orange added in for a tiny hint of color. You can see it on the active & hover links' color.

I'll look into changing the date's text color and see how that works.

[Reverse Blade]

I like it, not bad.

For me it's just a little too much white, and I'm not too big of a fan on the patterns in the banner. It's a pretty outdated style, and takes away from the actual images inside of the banner.

Thanks Reverse. To me, the patterning isn't that outdated, but oh well, to each his own.

That being said, I updated the header image a bit, removing the patterns on the 2 side photos, yet leaving it on the back photo because I wanted the focus on the front photos. Also changed the blending options on the main text slightly as well, and changed the color of the post titles to reflect more of the orange-hint-of-color throughout the blog. (It didn't look right on the date)

I really like the design. I think the header image overall compliments the simplicity within the body. You also have plenty of variation in the header. For example: I can see on the left side you use diagonal lines, and in the right you use a grid - which you implemented into the texture. The design reaches out to me and propels me to look more into the website.

However, I do find the sub-text a bit difficult to read (then again, I'm almost blind). There's something about the "+" characters in "Welcome" that I don't like that much. Maybe it's just a bit unnecessary, but if you like them there it doesn't really hurt the design.

I'd like to see some more!

About the sub-text, the little almost-transparent bar behind it was supposed to bring out the text more and make it a little more readable Or is it the font style that makes it hard for you to read?

And yeah, the "+" characters are just there because I liked them... that wasn't really part of the design, that's just a personal preference

Indeed, you're welcome.

I think it's the font you used.. It doesn't look bad, just a tad difficult for me to read.

I get that way when designing templates. If something looks like it needs more, it's hard not to add to it.

Aw, okay. In that case, sorry about that! I kinda took a chance with that font because I'm usually not a huge fan of it, but it seemed to look the best with the rest of the banner. I have way too many fonts in the first place though, haha.

And I know what you mean about additional edits... I think I'm done and then I think of something else to add to it and it kind of turns into this ongoing process of revising constantly.
