I remember my first taste of designing was around 2001 with a photo editing software I had, which I don't remember the name of.
In 2002 is when I first used Paint Shop Pro 7. I remember trying out photoshop and didn't know what I was doing so I stuck with Paint Shop. I used Paint Shop 8 for several years after that, I was so used to it.
In 2010 I begun college and did design. That was when I ditched Paint Shop and welcomed Photoshop with open arms. It made me wonder why I never gave Photoshop a chance before that, it was a godsend.

Uh, for some reason my parents had a copy of Photoshop Elements laying around. Installed it and started playing around with it. (Thinking this was around 2004). After I realized how much of a piece of shit Elements is, I upgraded to CS2, and been designing since. I don't use Photoshop too much anymore as I'm in college now majoring in computer science with a minor in 3D graphics. So it's mainly 3DS Max and Programming now.

8 years. Mostly off. I'd say 3-4 years off and now I only do sigs because when I used to do digital paintings it took up most of my time. I ventured off Proboards and thats when I started doing the paintings, so I figured if I came back to my roots I could just do a design on a small platform here and there without any real effort and just enjoy my time. I still dabble in digi painting here and there, but they never get finished due to lack of time and interest really. Good fun shit though. I used elements too when I FIRST started making sigs, I thought it was a pretty good program considering I didn't have money for anything else. It got the job done, and people used to like my shit back in the day.

Great to hear about other designers' beginnings! Thanks to all of you who've shared so far.
Mine started with PB actually, back around late 2003-early 2004, when I found a graphic design forum and became highly interested in learning about the process of creating your own graphics. That sparked me actually creating my own forum and wanting to design it myself, and scouring the internet for Photoshop tutorials to learn from. Our family desktop PC at the time had Adobe PS Elements installed already and I would play around with the program in my free time.
It's simply a hobby right now, seeing as I'm still in the process of attaining a degree that would help me design professionally, but I'd love to be able to make it a career. My only qualms about it is that I can be incredibly modest about my work and not as confident as I would like to appear. But yeah, it would be awesome to get paid to design!

I've been working with graphics for about 6 years give or take. I got my first glimpse of photoshop in my Media Arts class in high school, I Loved it from the beginning. I didn't start making my own graphics until a year after highschool when I regularly visited forums and liked making my own signatures/avatars.
